Art block is the ultimate villain, the final boss that haunts artists at 2 AM when they have deadlines looming. It’s that dreadful moment when everything you draw looks awful—like it’s your first day holding a pencil.
Personally, I rarely get art block (sorry, not sorry). For me, it happens when my sketches look like they were drawn with my eyes closed. That’s when I know it’s time for a quick break, and I continue again tomorrow.
Also, I almost always know what to draw. Before my art business, I used to drown in fanart because I was simping over my anime crushes. But once I started designing merch full-time, my focus shifted. Luckily, inspiration is just a scroll away—Instagram and Pinterest never fail to reignite my urge to create!
So here are some easy tipps to overcome Art Block!
1. The Training Arc – Just Draw Anyway
Even when you feel uninspired, pick up your pen and doodle. Scribble nonsense. Draw an angry cat with sunglasses. The more you force yourself to create, the faster you level up.
2. Summon Your Inspirations
Rewatch your favorite anime or reread that manga that made you want to start drawing in the first place. Sometimes, revisiting the classics (or obsessing over the latest seasonal waifu) reignites the artistic spark.
3. Power Up With Art Challenges
Try a ‘Draw This in Your Style’ challenge, sketch with your non-dominant hand, or draw your favorite anime character in a completely different art style. Experimentation is key to breaking free!
4. The Power of Friendship (or Social Media)
Join an artist community, share sketches, and interact with fellow artists. Motivation grows when you’re surrounded by others on the same journey.
5. Take a Side Quest
Sometimes, the best way to defeat the enemy is to walk away for a bit. Play a game, take a walk, or touch some grass—yes, it exists.
Now go forth, hero! Your art journey awaits, and no art block can stand in your way!
